Samsung Launches Tactical Edition of Galaxy XCover 6 Pro and Galaxy S23 in the US

Samsung has introduced the Tactical Edition of the Galaxy XCover 6 Pro and Galaxy S23 in the US, targeting the Department of Defense. While Samsung is known for its flagship phones, it has also been producing ruggedized phones under the XCover series for over a decade. Tactical Edition versions of its early-year flagships have also been available for a few years now. The Galaxy S23 Tactical Edition boasts powerful hardware, including the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, a 120Hz refresh rate screen, and a pro-grade 50MP camera sensor. Both phones are rugged and MIL-STD-810H compliant, with IP68-certified water and dust resistance.

The Galaxy XCover 6 Pro Tactical Edition, which was originally launched in mid-2022, is also being released in the US. Although the chipset used in this version is not specified, it is presumed to be the same Snapdragon 778G 5G chipset as the regular version. The phone is MIL-STD-810H compliant and can withstand drops from a height of up to 1.5 meters, as well as handle high altitudes, temperatures, vibration, and humidity. Other notable features include a microSD card slot supporting up to 1TB, Glove Mode, and a removable battery that is lightweight and slim.

On the security front, both Tactical Edition phones come with Samsung Knox, offering dual VPN chaining and Knox Dual Data at Rest (DualDAR) for enhanced security of sensitive documents. Samsung will provide four years of “software maintenance” support for the Tactical Edition phones, ensuring critical updates until January 2027.

While the price for the Tactical Edition smartphones is not disclosed, regular consumers can purchase the standard Galaxy XCover 6 Pro in the US through Samsung and retailers like Amazon for $600. The Tactical Edition phones are specifically designed for officials and personnel from the Department of Defense.

Interested customers can register their interest in either of the two Tactical Edition devices by filling out a form on the Samsung US website.
