Xiaomi Mi Note 2 is now official: Features, Specifications, Price, and else things you need to know

After a long wait, the Chinese Tech Giants Xiaomi has finally launched one of the most anticipated smartphone of the year, the Xiaomi Mi Note 2. What makes this smartphone special? Well, the most exciting feature of the smartphone is that it comes with a dual-edged curved display, similar to that of Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7. But, since the fall of legendary Note 7, the launch of Mi Note 2 couldn’t be any better for Xiaomi.

Design and Display

The Mi Note 2 comes with a stylish dual-curved design on both the front and the back. Furthering the similarities with the aforementioned Samsung device, the Mi Note 2 also has a 5.7-inch OLED, panel, curved on both sides. However the panel resolution is Full-HD (1080p) rather than Quad-HD (1440p) as the rumors suggested. Xiaomi has used curved 3D Glass on both sides of the phone, with a metal frame in the middle.

Hardware

With a 77.2% screen to body ration, the Mi Note 2 appears quite impressive on renders and there is little to frown at in the rest of the specs too. The smartphone is powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 821 processor clocked at 2.35GHz. The smartphone comes with 6 GB LPDDR4 RAM and as much as 128 GB of snappy UFS 2.0 storage. 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage is the other available option.

Camera

As for the camera, the smartphone comes with a 22.56 mega-pixel Sony IMX 318 Exmor sensor with a f/2.0 lens. The main shooter also has EIS (electronic image stabilization) for video capture all the way up to 4K. It works through a dedicated 3-axis gyroscope and promises excellent real-time jitter compensation. You also get the benefits of a hybrid PDAF and contrast autofocus system, dual-tone LED flash and Xiaomi’s proprietary low-light and long-exposure technologies.

On the front side of the Mi Note 2 there is an 8 mega-pixel shooter with a Sony IMX 268 sensor. Unlike most selfie cameras currently on the market, it is not a fixed focus module and comes with autofocus. It has an aperture of f/2.0 as well and a few additional Xiaomi optimizations, like improved group selfies and Beautify 3.0.

Connectivity and Battery

In terms of connectivity, the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 offers global LTE support across 6 network types and a total of 37 bands. There is a high-precision GPS module inside and a fully functional NFC module. The latter enables P2P communication, but also reading, writing and card emulation, which will definitely be handy for many in a modern NFC access control work spaces and homes.

Other interesting features on the Mi Note 2 include a high-quality 24-bit/192kHZ DAC. The smartphone is backed by a hefty 4,070 mAh battery pack, equipped with Quick Charge 3.0.

Price

As already mentioned, the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 will come in a couple of varieties. The top of the line model has 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage that will cost CNY 3,299 (US $485 or INR 32,400) in its home market and CNY 3,499 ($520 or INR 34,700) for the global version. And if you want to save a few bucks, in the low end there is a 4 GB RAM and 64 GB  storage version for CNY 2,799 ($415 or INR 27,700).
