The Chinese Tech Giants Xiaomi is all set to expand its grip in the Indian market as the company is reported to launch its Mi Air Purifier in the country on September 21. Xiaomi’s India Manu Jain tweeted out about a new product launch on the day, with the added message, “Every breath of fresh air is equally important!” Jain had also tweeted this message earlier,”#AirPollution is increasing every day – #Trucks #Autos #Construction #Factories. What are you doing to counter it?” hinting at the launch of its Air Purifier in the country.

The Mi Air Purifier will be the first from their home-centric products to launch in India. Given that both India and China have high levels of air pollution, especially in the cities like Delhi, it makes sense for any company to get into this market. India has recently seen a range of air purifiers from companies like Philips, Kent, BlueAir, Panasonic, etc, though most cost Rs 10,000 and above, especially those with better quality HEPA filters.
In China, the latest air purifier model is Mi Air Purifier 2 that comes with a HEPA filter, activated carbon filter, along with night mode as well. The Air Purifier can be controlled via Xiaomi’s Mi Home app, which you can download from Google Play Store. In China, the price for the Mi Air Purifier 2 is CYY 699 (approx INR 7,000). It will be interesting to see how Xiaomi prices this product in India.
Xiaomi’s Mi Air Purifier 2 launch will have a live-stream event as well. So far in India, Xiaomi has stuck with the online sale model, although Jain has indicated in the past they plan to expand into offline retail as well. We’ll have to wait and see if Xiaomi launches this product only online, and if it goes for a flash sale model for this product.
