Deathloop review | PS5, PC

Blackreef Island is trapped in a time warp and you play as Colt for the main single player campaign. A guy with no memory of the day before. He is the perfect reflection of the player, both confused and unaware of what is happening. You are told that 8 visionaries must be killed to break the time warp. How you do that is up to you. It takes some time to understand how Deathloop works, but at that moment it clicks – my god. Don’t be fooled if all of the menus and discoveries don’t make sense automatically. They didn’t do it for me. There’s a hell of a lot to do, but the rewards for your patience more than make up for it. It never takes itself too seriously. The voice actors for Colt and Julianna are great. So are the strange and wonderful visionaries. If I had one negative it would be that the AI is pretty stupid. Stealth is far too simple and you don’t always notice it, even when you are on its periphery. That being said, Deathloop is sure to be one of the best games of 2021, and there’s a reason Bethesda promoted it as much as they did.
