Basilisk Ultimate has a soft black shell that is blinded by the backlight of Razer’s RGB Chroma. At 4.6 x 2.79 x 1.49 inches and 107 grams, Basilisk Ultimate felt the right size and weight for my hands while working and playing. There is a Razer logo with RGB lighting on the palm rest, which is a box cutter-shaped panel surrounded by a shiny black accent. Behind the glossy part are the left and right clicks and, among the elegant cutouts, there is a parchment with RGB illumination and two DPI buttons.

On the right side of the mouse, there is a support panel for your ring and little finger and, on the left, another panel for the thumb, where you will find two discreet buttons and a multifunctional racket. The handle on the left side folds out at the bottom to let your thumb rest somewhere. Both sides have a thin RGB lighting zone on the right below the left and right mouse buttons.

On the front of the mouse, there is a slot for a micro-USB port, which can be used to recharge the mouse and enter wired mode. At the bottom is the 2.4 GHz wireless USB dongle under a plastic port. There is also a rocker arm to change the resistance of the scroll wheel, which is excellent. In addition, there is a button for changing Basilisk Ultimate profiles, five of which are fully customizable.

As well as the Razer The Viper Ultimate, the Basilisk Ultimate, comes with a Razer Chroma mouse charging dock (packaged for $ 169; $ 49 separately), which is a cute dock and surrounded by Chroma’s RGB lighting at the bottom. There is a black Razer logo on the base just below the two-pin magnetic charging port and a USB Type A port above it, for the 2.4 GHz wireless USB dongle on the mouse. Basilisk Ultimate works perfectly with the dock, thanks to its magnetic base.

Basilisk Ultimate mainly fits the contours of my hand. What I like most is the thumb grip – my thumb has never been so comfortable. The grip on my ring and little finger could have been better, but most mice don’t fit that well either. The adjustable scroll wheel is super wet to move, and the scroll wheel itself is much better than the Viper Ultimate, which is too small for me.

The main left and right buttons are a little shallow, but still have a clear and satisfying click. Meanwhile, the palm rest is mainly focused on the upper half of the palm, not the general center, where I think the mouse can still be improved a bit. Although Basilisk Ultimate is not as easy to lift as the Viper Ultimate, it still looked relatively light in my hand. In general, Basilisk Ultimate is quite comfortable to use.

Resources

Like the Razer Viper Ultimate, the Razer Basilisk Ultimate has new technologies and is fully equipped with the Razer Synapse application. You can configure the 11 programmable buttons of Basilisk Ultimate on the Customize tab in the Razer Synapse application. If you want to change the DPI, go to the Performance tab, where Synapse allows you to configure the DPI in five steps, each number going from 100 to 20,000.

In addition, you can customize the 14 RGB lighting zones on the Lighting tab, providing full access to Chroma tools to run with primary effects like Wave or create your design in Razer’s Chroma Studio. Using the other two tabs of the application, you can customize the calibration and power modes of the mouse. According to Razer, Basilisk Ultimate optical switches are more durable than those of a traditional mouse: they have been rated for 70 million clicks instead of 50 million clicks.

Razer Basilisk Ultimate Review: Performance

Playing with Basilisk Ultimate felt natural. In Doom, I stood in line in arcade mode and destroyed demons like no other, from accurately hitting the main shots with my weapon to fluently stamping the multipurpose racket and executing several fools. Each mouse must have a paddle in addition to the two buttons on the left, such as Basilisk Ultimate.

In Remnant: From the Axis, Basilisk Ultimate has always helped me land on each monster’s weaknesses. And the ability to change the DPI in real time helped me make quick turns when needed.

In Age of Empires III, I felt comfortable using Basilisk Ultimate for a long time and doing simple tasks, like sending villagers to cut down trees or telling my squad to build walls around my small town. Of course, the mouse reacted very sensitively when my cutting reflexes had to come out during a skirmish.

The Razer Basilisk Ultimate, along with the rest of the gaming mice recently unveiled by Razer, has a competitive advantage thanks to its hardware. Optical switches use an infrared beam to register a click, giving the mouse a 0.2 millisecond response time.

With the Razer Focus + optical sensor, Basilisk Ultimate also features intelligent tracking (calibrates the sensor depending on the surface on which the mouse is held), asymmetric takeoff (allows different presets for takeoff) and movement synchronization (improves response speed sensor). According to Razer, the sensor has a resolution accuracy of 99.6% and a tracking speed of 650 inches per second (IPS).

Unlike ordinary mice, Basilisk Ultimate’s feet are made of PTFE (Teflon), designed to increase sliding speed. He worked with Viper Ultimate and Basilisk Ultimate. The glider is so smooth that it looks like someone has put a silk sheet under my mouse.

In addition, Razer says its wireless technology is 25% faster than any other gaming mouse.

Battery life

Basilisk Ultimate has a service life of 100 hours on a single charge, with the lights off, so you can play 5 hours a day for 20 consecutive days or up to 10 hours a day for 10 days, if desired (perfect for when the Death Stranding arrive on the PC). And, as with Viper Ultimate, at the end of a session, you can play the mouse on the charging station, so that battery life is not so important. The charging station indicates the current charge level of the mouse using these colors: red (<25%), orange (26% to 50%), yellow (51% to 75%) and green (76% to 99% breathing) , 100% static).

However, I tested the battery with the lights on at 100% and the battery went from 24% to 4% in a few hours, which was a little disturbing. So, if you plan on playing long sessions, I recommend that you turn off the lights or turn them off completely.

Razer Basilisk Ultimate Review: Conclusion

The Razer Basilisk Ultimate enters the wireless gaming mouse scene with a new optical sensor and optical buttons for super smooth performance. In addition, it features a comfortable design, a clean loading stand and an adjustable scroll wheel – all supported by reliable software. However, the price of the mouse can be very high for some.

If you want to cut costs, go to the Logitech G502 Proteus Core, which costs just $ 50. It’s wired, but you’ll have some of the same cool features, like a customizable scroll wheel and great software. And unlike Basilisk, Proteus Core has adjustable weights.

But despite the price, Basilisk Ultimate is one of the best wireless gaming mice you can buy.

9 Total score

The subtle yet RGB-compatible mouse from Razer has the look, feel and welcoming software needed to make it worthy of its premium prices.
