Lenovo Yoga 900 ultrabook is measure 15 mm thick and wwighs 1.27 kg when the lid is closed that makes it slightly heavier than Yoga 3 Pro. But unlike Yoga 3 Pro that had Intel Core M, Yoga 900 comes with Intel Core i7 processor that justifies its slightly increased weight.

Display

The Lenovo Yoga 900 features the same display as that was in Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro which is a 13.3-inch Quad-HD + IPS Display with a resolution of 3200 * 1800 pixels that gives 276 ppi (pixels per inch) pixel density. The display quality is very impressive and colors are vibrant too. However, display is bit too reflective. The screen appears to be a mirror whenever a dark scene is displayed on the screen.

Keyboard and Touch Pad

The Yoga 900 features a 6-row keyboard. However, the keyboard on the laptop is a bit not-used-to kind of keyboard as the lower portion of the display is very reflective that it acts like a mirror and you can even see your fingers while typing that causes distraction. In comparison, the keyboard on Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro was much better than the keyboard on Yoga 900. There is no dedicated number pad in Lenovo Yoga 900.

The touch pad on the other side is quite impressive on Lenovo Yoga 900. The touch-pad is made of plastic and has much responsive left and right click buttons.

Software and Hardware

Lenovo Yoga 900 is considered to be the successor of Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro. Yoga 900 is powered by an Inter Core i7 6500U Dual-Core Processor which is clocked at 2.5 GHz  and can be turbo-boosted up to 3.1 GHz. The Skylake U processor is based on the 14 nm manufacturing process. Laptop comes with 8 GB of LP-DDR3L RAM and has 512 GB SSD storage of which 476 GB is available to the user.

It runs on Windows 10 Home and comes with McAfee Intel Security Suite. Lenovo Yoga 900 features a 1 mega-pixel HD CMOS web camera, downward firing JBL Stereo Speakers with Home Theatre certification. There is neither a dedicated LAN port nor any USB to LAN adapter. Apart from the power adapter, there is no accessory provided with Yoga 900.

Performance

Lenovo Yoga 900 performs all the regular as well heavy tasks quickly and effectively. The credit goes to the powerful Intel i7 processor with 8 GB RAM. However, the lack of GPU makes the Yoga 900 a non-gamer laptop. The internal Intel HD 520 graphic solution can give you a better frame rate at lower than full HD resolutions.

Windows 10 Home runs smoothly on the laptop. However, switching from tablet to laptop mode some time takes more than seconds. Using the touch in tablet laptop mode is nor ideal, it is only good for swiping.

The touch works fine for the tablet mode, but using the tablet as handheld is not handy at all. The tent or the stand mode is much convenient while using the Lenovo Yoga 900 in tablet mode.

Also, in terms of battery back-up, the Lenovo Yoga 900 gives 8 hours back-up on regular use which is much improved back-up when compared to Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro that could barely provided 6 hours of back-up on regular use.

Price and Verdict

The Lenovo Yoga 900 starts at $1,199 that includes a 6th-Gen Intel Core i7-6500U CPU, 8 GB RAM and a 256 GB SSD storage. For 512 GB SSD storage, you have to pay and extra $100. For the top end model of Lenovo Yoga 900 that comes with 16 GB RAM, the price is $1,399.

The price of Lenovo Yoga 900 in India is around Rs 1,22,000 which is Rs 7,000 more than Yoga 3 Pro.

Lenovo Yoga 900 is a complete and a highly featured 2 in 1 Ultrabook which is much better than its predecessor in every aspect. However, at such price tag, there many other Laptops with which Yoga 900 has to compete. Lenovo’s ThinkPad Carbon X1 and MacBook Pro are categorized in the same price tag which are likely considered better than Yoga 900. Also, if you’re a gamer, then Lenovo Yoga 900 is definitely not for you.

So, for the regular use, there is no purpose of spending a lot of cash on Yoga 900. It is only meant for those who are looking for a stylish and good-looking Laptop which also delivers well performance wise and gives 2 in 1 option.
