Gigabyte Aorus M5 Review

Gigabyte Aorus M5 Review

Mice can be the game’s secret weapon, and the Gigabyte Aorus M5 certainly proves its worth. It is not the most expensive gaming mouse on the market, but it is also not the cheapest. And that, combined with its somewhat lean construction, can make some potential buyers hesitate. But make no mistake. When it comes to gaming performance, the Aorus M5 is a strong contender. This is our Gigabyte Aorus M5 Review.

This gaming mouse also has a number of features, as the price must be determined and most of them are directed directly to the needs of the players. That’s it, from highly customizable RGB lighting to on-the-fly DPI switching and adjustable weights, making it highly flexible and the right gaming mouse for lovers of different styles, tastes and comfort levels.

Review of Gigabyte Aorus M5: Design

We mixed the thinking about the design of the Gigabyte Aorus M5. However, there are several things we like, and that is where we start.

Review of Gigabyte Aorus M5

First of all, this gaming mouse is ergonomically designed especially for right-handed players (sorry, left-handed) – decently large at 128 mm x 72 mm x 43 mm, so it is suitable for large hands, but not stressful for small hands. The mouse body is tapered in the middle with rubber pads on both sides for greater comfort and better grip. There is also a weight distribution system with 5 slots, so you can adjust the weight and the scale according to your personal preference and comfort.

The mouse also has a gamer appearance that is not subtle, but also not cutting edge, with RGB lighting on both sides, around the scroll wheel and in the logo. This RGB lighting is also fully customizable. This means that you can change the color, movement, speed of action and brightness of each lamp. For an even better gaming experience, you can synchronize these lights with those of other RGB Fusion devices through the RGB Fusion app.

The buttons are manufactured with Japanese Omron switches that guarantee a click of 50 million times by Gigabyte, which means that these buttons will last for practically a while. The left and right buttons look particularly robust, but comfortable. They also work decently for the palm and claw playing styles, although more pressure is needed on the back edges of the buttons to make the mouse click correctly.

In addition, there are two DPI buttons under the steering wheel, which allow you to switch between four DPI settings in flight as standard. Obviously, these buttons and the scroll wheel are fully customizable, so you can customize their functions using Gigabytes’ Aorus Engine Software, which should help you get an edge in the game.

Our problem is in the construction, which seems a little fragile. The plastic palm rest and the bottom cover that hides the weight compartment appear to be made of cheaper plastic. Our overhaul unit came with a separate part – the magnet that held the bottom cover came off and had to be glued again. In addition, the mouse cable is not stranded and looks like it can wear out easily after many hours of play.

At its price of $ 70, we expected Gigabyte to invest a little more in a more solid construction.

What the Aorus M5 lacks in more durable build quality, it makes up for in functions. In addition to the fully customizable RGB gaming mouse lights and buttons, it also offers a number of other features that can help users gain the advantage of the game. This includes adjustments to the weight distribution system, surface life calibration and on-the-fly DPI – all of which we will discuss separately below – in addition to macro features.

The Aorus M5’s weight distribution system consists of five 2.5-gram weights designed to fit comfortably into five internal weight slots. The mouse starts lightly at 118 grams and allows you to add weights, making it highly customizable based on what is most comfortable for you. This reviewer added only one weight placed in the right slot and, by making it a little more substantial on the right side, it became much more comfortable to use.

To optimize responsiveness based on your work surface, you can calibrate the lift distance with the Aorus M5 using the Aorus Engine Software. It is not a complicated process, nor is it as intimidating as the name suggests. You simply choose your type of surface or carpet and then use the slider to determine the elevation tolerance. However, it is worth noting that we do not need to use this feature. The mouse worked well out of the box without calibration.

You can define four DPI settings or profiles that you can use while flying with the Aorus M5’s DPI buttons located under the steering wheel. The maximum resolution setting of this 16,000 DPI gaming mouse offers a lot of flexibility with the sensitivity you want the mouse to be and the speed with which it moves.

Each of these DPI profiles can therefore be set from very low to 16,000 DPI, even though there is never a reason to use the highest setting. Using the DPI buttons, you can quickly switch profiles, depending on whether you need a slower profile to crop to 3,200 for fast FPS playback. These DPI profiles and buttons are sure to be useful, whether you’re an enthusiast or a professional gamer.

Gigabyte Aorus M5: Performance

With a maximum of 16,000 DPI, a polling rate of 1,000Hz and a decent take-off distance, we expected the Gigabyte Aorus M5 to deliver excellent performance, and we were not disappointed. This mouse may be under construction, but in terms of performance, it can be worth every penny of that $ 70 price tag (although it’s still interesting to note that there are cheaper mice that are just as impressive).

We tested this gaming mouse against some of the highest AAA games on the market, including Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, Call of Duty: WWII, Far Cry 5 and Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, and it performed perfectly. It is very responsive and we had no problems with latency. The buttons were accurate, although they had a lot of movement in them, and the movements were smooth. We even recorded some macros for Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey and the mouse ran them without any problems.

Review of Gigabyte Aorus M5

As it will run after prolonged use of the game, subject to heavy pressures and pounds, we cannot say with certainty. However, the fact that the left and right buttons display about 50 million clicks makes us hopeful that he can be abused a lot in games without sacrificing performance.

Review of Gigabyte Aorus M5: Conclusion

For $ 70, it’s easy to understand how some players might hesitate to peel the dough out of a gaming mouse. Considering that there are many gaming mice that can perform the same at a lower cost, not to mention the fact that the construction of the Aorus M5 is a bit dubious. To be honest, we cannot say how long this mouse will last when used in a massive game; can go in any direction.

However, it’s fun and practical design, a comprehensive set of features, possibilities for personalization and personalization and excellent performance are more than enough reasons to think about it when you shop. For more options, see our list of Best Gaming Mouse
