News: United Airlines to pay $49.5 million to settle criminal probe into international mail contracts.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – United Airlines agreed to pay $ 49.5 million for the settlement of criminal complaints and civil claims related to fraud in postal service contracts for the transportation of international mail, the U.S. Department of Justice said on Friday.

“United defrauded the US Postal Service by providing fake package delivery information and accepting millions of dollars in payments that the company was not entitled to over a period of years,” the Justice Department said. United didn’t comment immediately.
