Oppo’s foldable phone is said to feature a 7.8-inch to 8-inch 2K display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, it will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset and will feature a 50MP camera on the back, a 32MP front-facing camera, and will also use a side-mounted fingerprint sensor similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 3.
At the present, it’s safe to say that Samsung leads the foldable smartphone market, but that may change. This is because, according to a post on Weibo by well-known leakster Digital Chat Station, the purported features of Oppo’s forthcoming foldable phone appear to be intriguing and strong enough to threaten Samsung’s position.
As for software, the handset is rumored to come with Color OS 12 on top of Android 11, which is a bit disappointing given that Android 12 will soon become the latest Android update.
On paper the phone sounds good, but there is currently no word on its launch. There have been rumors suggesting a 2022 launch, but by that time a phone with a Snapdragon 888 would literally be last year’s news. It will still be a powerful handset, but we would have preferred something newer.
The post also claims that in terms of size, the phone is said to share similar proportions to the Huawei Mate X2.
Either way, it’s still a good thing that Oppo is launching a foldable. Like we said, Samsung pretty much rules the foldables market right now so it would be nice if we were given more options.
