The Clark County Sheriff's Office is warning of phone fraud

Points Highlighted:

  • The sheriff’s office will not ask for cash in person or to meet somewhere to clear an arrest warrant, and it does not ask for nor take gift cards as payment for fines.

  • The scammer has been using the names of actual members of the sheriff’s office. They call and say the sheriff’s office has a warrant or other fines associated with the intended target’s name. The caller then commonly advises they pay via gift cards to prevent arrest or legal action, according to an agency news release.

Anyone who is unsure of the validity of a call or the caller can contact the sheriff’s office West Precinct at 564-397-6079.

Questions or concerns about warrants, money owed for fines or judgments, or other legal matters involving the sheriff’s office can be directed to the agency’s warrants department at 564-397-2397 or Clark County court at 564-397-2000.
