There are rumors that suggest Sony is growing vigorously. Judging by the leaks, the camera brand is expected to launch the Sony a7S III later this summer. But for now, the company has officially launched the Sony FE 12-24mm f / 2.8 G-Master lens. It is a high-end ultra-wide zoom lens. The new lens is part of Sony’s premium line of G-Master series lenses.
The Sony FE 12-24mm f / 2.8 G-Master lens is compact and aimed at professionals. The lens is ideal for capturing landscapes, astrophotography and architecture. As noted in the Sony press release, the lens is said to “provide additional mobility for active sports photographers looking to capture ultra-wide perspectives”.
The new Sony FE 12-24mm f / 2.8 G-Master lens has a complex optical design. The lens elements consist of 17 elements in 14 groups. This includes three extreme aspherical elements, a regular aspherical one, two super extra low dispersion elements, three extra low dispersion elements and a new Nano AR Coating II being used for the first time.
The FE 12-24mm f / 2.8 is weatherproof, which means the lens has a dust and moisture resistant design. Other specifications include: customizable focus hold button, focus mode switch and rear filter holder for cut gel filters. Sony offers a filter model to help users reduce the size of gel filters.
Sony’s new lens is larger than Sigma’s 14-24mm F2.8 and weighs around 847g. The lens will be available in the US in August for a price of $ 3,000.
