That’s right, WayForward’s legendary 8-bit Shantae game is flipping its hair to Sony’s contemporary consoles. The title was ported to Nintendo Switch last year, using Limited Run Games’ spangly Carbon Engine, and is getting the PlayStation treatment in the near future. There’s no firm release date announced, although pre-orders for physical copies will open on 26th August, 2022.
Shantae, the incredibly famous game for the Game Boy Color, may have been a commercial fiasco when it initially came out in 2002, but its legacy continues on 20 years later. Shantae has now gone on to become a somewhat successful character in a number of games, all of which, with the exception of the original, are playable on the PS5 and PS4. That is, until today!
“In her debut title, Shantae hair-whips, dances, and transforms as she seeks out four elemental stones hidden throughout Sequin Land to put a stop to the nefarious lady pirate, Risky Boots,” the press release teases. “During her quest, she’ll explore treacherous labyrinths, gain amazing new powers, conquer mini-games, and meet up with friends such as Bolo, Sky, and Rottytops!”
