Samsung’s Tizen-Powered Galaxy Watch Goes Official

With its new smartwatch, Samsung announces a new line of smart wearables. No longer called Gear, the Galaxy Watch is still a logical continuation of the Gear S3. The Galaxy Watch comes in the 46 mm size of its predecessor but has also added a smaller 42 mm option. There are three colors to choose from – Midnight Black, Rose Gold and Silver and Samsung offer a wide variety of bands to choose from. As with Gear smartwatches, the round ring on the Samsung Galaxy Watch rotates around to guide you through the Tizen interface.

The 46mm Galaxy watch has a built-in 472mAh battery, and the smaller 42mm has an integrated 270mAh unit. No matter what you go for, Samsung claims “different days” of endurance. There are both Bluetooth and LTE models available, both with GPS for accurate tracking. Both LTE and Bluetooth models have an embedded 4 GB storage, but they differ in RAM: the LTE model has 1.5 GB of RAM, while the Bluetooth model has half of 768 MB.

The Tizen-powered Galaxy Watch offers more than 60 thousand dials. The Samsung Galaxy Watch is IP68 water resistant with an extra 5ATM pressure rating. It is also drop-resistant and meets the vague MIL-STD-810G standard. The screen is either 1.3-inch (46 mm) or 1.2-inch (42 mm) with Gorilla Glass DX + on top. The Samsung Galaxy Watch is focused on fitness, but also on physical health. It can follow 39 different types of training (including food and water tracing), but it also monitors your sleep and assesses your stress levels.

Samsung will sell the Galaxy Watch on August 24 in the US. T-Mobile has the LTE Galaxy Watch for $ 375 (42 mm) and $ 400 (46 mm) and the model with Bluetooth only for $ 330 (42 mm) and $ 350 (46 mm). Korea will be the next to receive the Galaxy Watch on 31 August with other markets that follow on 14 September.
