Redmi launched its latest smartphone, the Note 9, in India. The phone was finally launched in the country after days of leaks and provocations. The launch comes after the company previously confirmed through a teaser that it will launch a new Redmi Note 9 model on July 20. The company revealed this information by sharing a teaser on its Twitter profile, which features a championship belt with the number 9 and the words Redmi and Nota sobre.
The Redmi Note 9 arrived in India as a slightly diluted version of the Redmi Note 9 Pro launched in India a few months ago. The phone has many similarities to the global variant launched a while ago, but there are some important differences.
Redmi Note 9: price and availability
The Redmi Note 9 was launched during a virtual event, where the phone manufacturer announced that the device is coming to India at an aggressive price. In India, the phone starts at a retail price of Rs 11,999 for the basic version of 4 GB + 64 GB. There is also a 6 GB variant that Redmi launched in India. This costs Rs 14,999 and brings 128 GB of storage.
All three variants are available in Pebble Gray, Arctic White and Aqua Green. The phone will go on sale on July 24 and will be available offline and online. For the latter, the phone is on sale through Mi.com and Amazon.com.
Redmi Note 9: specifications and features
The Redmi Note 9 features a 6.53 inch IPS panel with FHD + resolution and a hole with a 13 megapixel camera protected by a layer of Gorilla Glass 5. Under the hood, the Redmi Note 9 uses a MediaTek Helio G85 chip, which uses a processor with two performance cores and six efficiency cores. The phone is available with up to 6 GB of RAM with 64 GB or 128 GB storage options, which can be expanded with a MicroSD card.
At the rear, there is a four camera system with the same square design as the Pro models, but with the black patch extended further to hide a capacitive fingerprint sensor. Quadruple cameras contain a 48 megapixel main camera with a Samsung GM1 sensor supported by an 8 megapixel ultra wide angle camera. You also get a 2 megapixel macro camera and a 2 megapixel depth camera. For selfies, there is a 13 megapixel camera with an unknown sensor.
Keeping the lights on is a 5020 mAh battery that supports 22.5 W fast charging. It also gets a 22.5 W fast charger in the box to charge the battery quickly. The Redmi Note 9 also features a USB-C port, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, NFC for selected markets and an IR blaster.
The Redmi Note 9 is the company’s latest offering at the top end of the budget segment in the country. It also receives a huge 5020 mAh battery.
