Spotify is testing an AI-powered feature that will translate podcasts into different languages, the company announced on Monday. The translations, powered by Microsoft-backed OpenAI’s voice generation technology, will mimic the original speaker’s style and provide a more natural experience than traditional dubbing. The feature is part of Spotify’s efforts to tap into generative artificial intelligence and attract new users to its platform. The company has collaborated with podcasters such as Dax Shepard, Lex Fridman, Monica Padman, Bill Simmons, and Steven Bartlett for this feature. The voice translations will initially be available in languages including Spanish, French, and German, with the potential to expand to more languages in the future. Spotify has been investing heavily in its podcast business to increase engagement and attract advertisers, but rising operating expenses have outpaced revenue growth.
