Nokia Time To Die: Bond-themed phone from Nokia teased for March 19 launch

As MWC 2020 has been canceled, many phone companies have organized replacement events to launch their new smartphones, and we now know when Nokia will be ready to show off its new phones. According to ‘save the date’ that the company sent, as you can see above, the product launch will take place on March 19th at 16:00 GMT (11:00 am ET, 8:00 am PT).

We expected to see the Nokia 10 launch at MWC, in addition to some mid-range and / or budget phones, and there could be a clue to confirming these phones in the invitation: a recently leaked rendering for the first (although this refers to Nokia 9.2, which could be the Nokia 10 – we are still not sure about the name) showed a circular camera collision, much like the white circle at the top of the invitation. But that white circle, the only distinguishing feature in another minimalist brochure, could point to something else.

Bond fans will be familiar with the opening sequence of the ‘gun barrel’, which contains a series of animated white circles, one of which becomes the barrel of a Bond trained gun – Bond then spins and sends the killer candidate . These white circles are similar to those in the brochure. Does that sound hesitant? It would be if Juho Sarvikas, product director at HMD Global (Nokia’s parent company), had not explicitly indicated that they were linked, in a tweet that also contains animated circles.

In a tweet, Sarvikas linked the Nokia save-the-date phone to Bond’s iconic introduction, in addition to (almost) calling the next 007 films No Time To Die, with the tweet ‘No time to wait’. Therefore, it is certain that the Nokia event will contain something related to James Bond, or the next film. So what could this Bond bonding mystery be? Could it be a phone with the 007 mark, similar to other movie connection devices (like the OPPO F11 Pro Marvels Avengers Limited Edition) or a device full of Bond-like gadgets?

Or perhaps a new and robust device, difficult for a spy in the field or a sleek and stylish phone? We don’t know at the moment. We will find out on March 19th, when the Nokia event will take place.
