News: Nokia signs patent license pact with Samsung.
STOCKHOLM (Reuters) – Nokia has signed an agreement with Samsung to license patents for its innovations in video standards, the Finnish telecommunications company said on Thursday.
Although the companies did not disclose the financial terms of the deal, Samsung will pay Nokia royalties.
Nokia’s patent portfolio consists of around 20,000 patent families, including over 3,500 that have been identified as essential for 5G.
The deal comes months after US rival Ericsson filed a lawsuit against Samsung in a royalties and patent licensing dispute.
The US International Trade Commission announced last month that it would open an investigation after Ericsson alleged Samsung infringed some of its patents on next-generation 4G and 5G cellular wireless infrastructure systems.
