More than four years ago we launched PlayStation VR to bring a transformative new way to play on PS4, with a much greater sense of presence and deeper player immersion compared to traditional games. During that time, we’ve had great experiences that have pushed virtual reality gaming forward, including critically acclaimed titles like Astro Bot: Rescue Mission, Tetris Effect, Blood & Truth, Moss, Beat Saber, and Resident Evil 7 Biohazard. We’ve also improved the experience for some PS VR titles when played on PS4 Pro and PlayStation 5.
Today I am proud to announce that our next generation VR system is available on PlayStation 5 and enables the ultimate entertainment experience with huge leaps in performance and interaction. Players will experience an even greater sense of presence and immerse themselves even more in their game worlds when they put on the new headset.
We continue to innovate with our new VR system so that our fans can continue to enjoy the unique experiences that PlayStation represents. We’re using what we’ve learned since PS VR launched on PS4 to create a next-generation VR system that improves everything from resolution and field of view to tracking and input. The system connects to PS5 with a single cable for ease of installation and ease of use. At the same time, a visual high-fidelity experience is made possible.
One of the innovations we’re looking forward to is our new VR controller, which, in addition to the focus on great ergonomics, includes some of the most important functions of the DualSense wireless controller. This is just one of the examples of future-proof technologies we are developing to realize our vision of an entirely new generation of VR games and experiences.
We’re still working hard on developing our new VR system so it doesn’t hit the market in 2021. We wanted to give our fans this early update, however, as the developer community has started creating new worlds for you to explore in virtual reality.
We’d also like to thank all of our PS VR players for your continued support. With the upcoming games like After The Fall, Sniper Elite VR and Humanity, PS VR will have a lot more to offer, whether you’re playing on the PS4 or PS5. With PlayStation VR and the next generation VR system we are developing, our commitment to virtual reality as the medium for games is stronger than ever. We look forward to sharing more details in the future!
