New iPhone Leaks, a powerful iMac update, and holiday iPhone Facts

Tech Highlights:

  • Apple Loop is here to remind you of a handful of the numerous conversations that have taken place around Apple in the previous seven days (and you can read my weekly digest of Android news here on Forbes).

  • This week’s Apple Loop looks back at another week of Cupertino news and headlines, including the new iPhone 14 design, a brand new iPhone SE for 2022, iMac production underway, new App Store millionaires, seven years of iOS updates, Apple winning the 5G market share race, and your favourite iPhone facts.

Shock iPhone 14 Design Choice

“In an exclusive report, historically accurate site The Elec has revealed that Apple has now agreed a supply chain deal with LG to provide OLED punch hole displays for the iPhone 14 range. The deal signals the biggest visual change to the iPhone line-up since the iPhone X rebooted Apple’s smartphones in 2017 and hopefully shoots down previous pill-shaped punch-hole leaks. Moreover, every new iPhone 14 model could be getting the upgrade.”

If there’s one thing that Apple’s hardware is known for over the last few years, it’s the notched screen. Now the MacBook Pro has followed the iPhone trend, it would be typical if the next generation iPhone dropped the notch for a punch hole selfie camera. Oh…

Apple’s next new iPhone will not be the iPhone 13 family, but the third-generation iPhone SE. Set to launch two years after Apple revived the brand, the mid-range smartphone is expected to slot in to the price point just below the iPhone 12 Mini, and is expected to sell far more than the diminutive mainline handset:

“…trial production, a stage in the supply chain ahead of when the device is mass produced, is set to start soon, according to sources in the upstream supply chain, hinting that the launch of the new iPhone is approaching. The new iPhone SE is reportedly on track to be released in the first quarter of 2022, towards the end of March.”
