According to an affidavit, the store’s owner reported the business had been burglarized. The owner said he believed his cousin, identified as Malik Hamud, 35, robbed the store after he was fired just two days before. The owner said he fired his cousin after he received threatening text messages.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is behind bars after Memphis Police say he stole over $28k worth of merchandise from his cousin’s cell phone store. The incident happened Sept. 21 at B Connected Wireless in the 7900 block of E. Shelby Drive.
Detectives saw one message that read, “Don’t mess with me…I still have your key…I will clear your store out if I like,” records show. The owner gave a detailed list of the stolen items, which totaled $28,750, records show.
Video surveillance showed the suspect enter the store with a key before turning off the alarm and disabling the camera system. Detectives found a key near a shattered glass phone display. The owner said the key belonged to Hamud and told police when he asked Hamud to return it, he said he lost it, according to the affidavit. Hamud is charged with Burglary and Theft of Property.
