The review process for the Chinese supplier Sunny Optical’s iPad The 5P lens has reportedly gone smoothly, significantly increasing the likelihood of the iPhone 13 shipping with 7P wide-angle lens. This would improve the ultra wide camera’s performance in low light conditions. This emerges from the latest TFI Securities announcement from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo that MacRumors saw. (However, the information contradicts a report by Barclays analysts.)

Kuo expects Sunny will begin mass shipping its ‌iPad‌ 5P lens in the middle of the first quarter of 2021, which Apple supplies around 15% of these parts due to limited initial production capacity. The report does not specify which “iPad” model the 5P lens is for, but the proportion of shipping for 5P and 7P lenses is expected to increase further to 15-20% to 25-30% in 2022. According to Kuo, Sunny, Optical’s increased competition will also put pressure on Largan, which is currently starting a price war due to its significant technological advantages over others iPhone Lens suppliers.
