MOUNT PLEASANT, me. The Mid-American Conference’s inaugural women’s lacrosse season shows a very ambitious and challenging schedule with several high profile opponents for Central Michigan in 2021. The Chippewas are set to open their sixth season of lacrosse on the road on Friday, February 19th in Notre Dame, and then on February 24th to Vanderbilt, where the CMU opponents from the Atlantic coast and American Athletic conferences come straight off the slide. The Chippewas are then likely to face another high profile opponent at a Power 5 conference when they entertain Oregon at their home opening game on February 28. This marks the beginning of a four-game home track in which CMU will renew its acquaintance with Marquette, Detroit, Mercy and Cincinnati. “We are very excited about the challenge of playing our most competitive non-conference schedule in the history of our program,” said CMU trainer Sara Tisdale. “This schedule helps bring our program onto a national stage. Team 6 takes on the field every day with the goal of bringing home the first MAC women’s lacrosse title. “The Detroit Mercy game, slated for March 7, will serve as the MAC prelude for Chippewas in the first season the league has sponsored a championship for women’s lacrosse. The MAC has welcomed Detroit Mercy, Youngstown State and Robert Morris as associate members for women’s lacrosse, while full league members Kent State and Akron round out the league. The CMU will play each of its five MAC brothers both at home and on the go, giving the Chippewas 10 conference games that culminate on May 8th at home with Youngstown State. The Chippewas attended the Atlantic Sun Conference during their first two years of varsity game (2016-17) and the Southern Conference from 2018-20 (2020 season was canceled due to COVID after the CMU 2-3 in games started outside the league). CMU won the SoCon title in the regular season in 2018.
