Halo Infinite‘s multiplayer component is unsurprisingly being showered with a ton of love by both critics and fans, although there are some concerns with the game’s paid Battle Pass. 343 Industries is currently working to issue fixes related Battle Pass progression- to read more on that, click through here.
According to the Xbox Store, Halo Infinite is now the most popular free game on the platform. To be more specific, the “top free games” section of the Xbox Store in both the US and the UK shows Halo Infinite as the most-played game, beating out games like Call of Duty: Warzone and Fortnite in terms of player counts. While the actual player counts for the game are unknown, we do know that upon launch, the game had a concurrent player peak of over 272,000 players on Steam.
The multiplayer for Halo Infinite was released last week, and since then, players around the globe have been checking out the gameplay. While the title was undoubtedly a big success for Xbox at launch, new details have helped reveal how well it is performing.
These new details suggest that the decision to make the multiplayer component of Halo Infinite free-to-play was the right move. While the popularity of the series would sell copies of the game regardless, removing a barrier to entry makes it even easier for players to hop into online matches.
In addition to topping the free-to-play charts in the UK and US, the game has done remarkably well on Steam. Shortly after the multiplayer launch, Halo Infinite became the most successful Xbox Game Studios title of all time on the platform. However, that early success has continued in the days since its release. According to Steam Charts, it occupies 4th place on the “Top Games” list with 113,993 current players. Furthermore, it set an impressive all-time peak concurrent player total of 256,619.
Beyond these already impressive numbers, the game could be poised to make another surge in popularity in only a couple of weeks. The campaign for the Halo Infinite launches on December 8, giving players the chance to continue the narrative of the Master Chief. With the palpable hype surrounding the story, it seems likely that more players will be interested in checking out this single-player side of the experience. Even popular streamers, such as Shroud, have commented that they are excited to go through the latest campaign set on the new ring of Zeta Halo.
