Google is slowly but surely opening its Stadia cloud gaming service to more interested customers, with a new promotion starting this month that offers three months of its Stadia Pro subscription to owners of Chromecast Ultra devices. There is no need to buy a new device. All you have to do is choose to receive promotional emails from Google, and the company will send the offer to well-known Chromecast Ultra owners.
Google confirmed that this is the first such promotion for Stages and works as the platform’s buddy pass system. It is not clear whether it is limited to a particular country, but Stadia is currently available in 14 countries and regions around the world.
To be clear, Stadia Pro is the only version of Google’s cloud service currently available; there will be a standard Stadia level without 4K streaming that will be free, but the company has not yet launched it. At the moment, the only way to play Stadia outside of a Chrome browser or on a compatible Android device is with a Chromecast Ultra connected to a TV.
Currently, Stadia Pro costs $ 10 a month. Prior to this promotion, the only way to access the service is through a buddy pass given by an existing subscriber or by purchasing the $ 129 Premiere edition. This package comes with a three-month pass for Stages Pro, the Stages controller Google custom and a Chromecast Ultra.
But Google may now be interested in getting more users on the platform. In December, the company gave Stadia Pro users an extra friend pass. The company also announced the opening of a new in-house gaming studio in Playa Vista, California, led by the former head of God of War creator Santa Monica Studio, which will be dedicated to the development of Stadia exclusives.
