News: Facebook set to launch newsletter product for writers and journalists.
(Reuters) – Facebook Inc is rolling out a new publishing platform in the US in the coming months that will allow independent writers and journalists to reach new audiences and monetize their work through email newsletters and individual websites.
Recently, more and more writers and journalists have been jumping into the email newsletter, preferring the editorial freedom inherent in the medium, which also allows them to move away from ad-supported business models that have steadily declined.
The competition between companies like Substack, Medium, and Twitter’s recently acquired revue, which allows content creators to try a mix of paid and free email newsletters to reach out to potential readers.
Facebook, the new platform that allows authors to earn money through subscriptions, is being integrated Facebook Pages, the company said, adding that writers can also create groups to connect with their reading community.
The world’s largest social network last month pledged to invest at least $ 1 billion in the news industry over the next three years after the Australian government campaigned to pay news agencies for content.
