Points Highlighted:

  • The game is being developed by the EA studio Motive, which previous worked on “Star Wars Squadrons.”

  • The video game publisher announced Thursday plans to remake the popular survival horror video game for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. No release date was revealed.

The original “Dead Space” from 2008 starred an engineer named Isaac Clarke sent on a mission to repair a stranded space ship. Upon arrival, he discovers the crew has been killed and the ship populated by a zombie-like alien threat called necromorphs.

“The Dead Space franchise made a huge impact on the survival horror genre when it was released 12 years ago, and I came to Motive as a fan first to specifically work on this game,” said Phillippe Ducharme, senior producer of “Dead Space,” in a statement.

Instead of traditional weapons, players use Isaac’s assortment of engineering tools to dismember and kill necromorphs.

Inspired by earlier horror games like “Resident Evil,” “Dead Space” became a big hit for EA, spawning multiple sequels and spinoffs.
