OpenAI’s ChatGPT Gets Major Update: Voice Conversations and Image Interactions
OpenAI’s popular chatbot, ChatGPT, is receiving a significant update that will allow users to have voice conversations and interact using images. This update brings ChatGPT closer to other AI assistants like Apple’s Siri, expanding its capabilities and potential applications. OpenAI stated in a blog post that the voice feature “opens doors to many creative and accessibility-focused applications”.
Similar to Siri, Google voice assistant, and Amazon.com’s Alexa, ChatGPT will now be able to set alarms, deliver reminders, and provide information from the internet. However, ChatGPT’s new voice feature goes beyond these basic functions. It can narrate bedtime stories, settle debates, and even speak out loud text input from users. The technology behind ChatGPT’s voice feature is also being utilized by Spotify to translate podcast content into different languages.
In addition to voice conversations, ChatGPT will now support image interactions. Users can take pictures of objects or graphs and ask the chatbot to troubleshoot issues, plan meals based on the contents of their fridge, or analyze complex data. While Alphabet’s Google Lens is currently a popular choice for obtaining information from images, ChatGPT’s image support provides an alternative option.
Since its launch last year, ChatGPT has been widely adopted by companies for various tasks, including summarizing documents and writing computer code. This has sparked a competition among Big Tech companies to develop their own generative AI offerings. OpenAI’s latest update further solidifies ChatGPT’s position as a leading chatbot in the AI space.
The new voice and image features of ChatGPT will be rolled out to subscribers of its Plus and Enterprise plans over the next two weeks, offering an enhanced and more interactive experience for users.
