Brown receives a bomb threat over the phone and evacuates buildings near the green

  • At Columbia, buildings in Manhattan named in the threat were evacuated, searched and cleared by 4:51 p.m., the Columbia Daily Spectator, a student newspaper, reported. The Spectator showed posts on Twitter saying explosive devices and motion detectors were placed around campus, and that any responding law enforcement officers would be shot with assault rifles and Glock pistols.

  • Columbia University in New York City and Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, took similar action after receiving similar threats, Bloomberg.com reported. Yale University evacuated part of its campus in New Haven, Connecticut, on Friday, Bloomberg reported. Cornell’s threat involved the central campus and law school. Cornell turned to its social media accounts to alert student, faculty, and others to evacuate and stay clear of the law school and other facilities at the Ithaca university, according to the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle.
