Apple Watch 2 might launch along with the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in September

It’s been a year since the launch of the Apple Watch, and seems like we won’t have to wait long for the next-generation Apple Watch 2. With Apple gearing up to launch the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in September, a report now suggests that the Apple Watch 2 might be launched alongside as well. It further states that shipments of the chips and components will begin in next quarter.

As per the reports of BGR, the Apple Watch 2 is expected to look similar to the Apple Watch, but it would be 20 to 40 percent thinner respectively. A recent report hints at modular smart bands, which will let Apple add features to the smartwatch like blood pressure monitor, a thermometer, speakers, a camera, SIM card module, GPS module or even additional battery power. There is also talks about the next Apple Watch will come with a Face-Time camera, which will be embedded into the top bezel.

One of the major points of discussion is that Apple could be making the Apple Watch 2 independent of the iPhone. The upcoming wearable is likely to feature cellular network connectivity and a faster processor among others. This feature would put it on par with the Samsung Gear S2, which too doesn’t need to be connected to a smartphone. By being independent, the new Apple Watch would get the ability to make and receive calls, send messages, and streaming songs on Apple Music.

As for the software front, the Apple Watch 2 will run on watch OS 3, which was recently showcased at WWDC 2016. The new OS comes with an overhauled UI and the overall performance is said to be much better than before. Some of the new features on watch OS 3 include Instant launch, control center, and scribble to name a few.
