Design and Display

The HTC 10 looks absolutely gorgeous at its first look. The device oozes class and it does feel like you are holding an expensive smartphone in your hands. Thanks to the compact size, the curved body and all new aluminium body design, the device fits right into your palms as well. The back houses the antenna lines, rear camera and features the logo etched into the metal body.

The Smartphone features a 5.2-inch Q-HD (quad HD) (2560 * 1440 pixels) Super LCD 5 display with a pixel density of 565 ppi, and there is nothing we could find to complain about. It is bright, with great color reproduction and the touch input is quite smooth. Below the display is the fingerprint scanner which is a touch sensitive button. With just a touch you can go back to the home-screen and similarly by touching you can unlock the device.

Hardware and Software

The HTC 10 is powered by the latest 2.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor that features 4 GB RAM and 32/64 GB in-built storage. There is a micro-SD slot as well with 200 GB capacity. Is runs on an Android Marshmallow OS that comes with HTC Sense UI.

Performance wise, HTC 10 is a smooth smartphone we have come across so far, and there were no visible lag or stutter. Much of that is also down to the new Sense UI, which is minimal in size and you largely get the experience of using a stock Android ROM. Needless to say, performance will be the least of one’s concerns regarding the HTC 10.

Camera

HTC 10 features a 12 mega-pixel rear camera with HTC’s Ultra-pixel technology. The rear camera can support 4K recordings and comes with as f/1.8 aperture. The pixel size is 1.55 μm. The front camera is 5 mega-pixel with pixel size of 1.34 μm. The camera features OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) Technology in both front and rear cameras which is something we have not seen before.

The smartphone’s camera was able to click some great shots. Even the selfie camera was impressive. The pictures are sharp in both low and bright light.

Battery and Additional Features

The battery on HTC 10 is a 3000 mAh and the company is claiming that the smartphone can easily give a 27 hours of talk-time backup. The Smartphone also features Quick Charge 3.0 Technology and the device can be charged up to 50% with in 30 minutes.

While the HTC 10 might miss Galaxy S7′s water and dust resistant capabilities, it still comes with enough features to keep buyers interested. These include a micro-SD card slot with support for cards up to 2 TB, stereo 24-bit Hi-Res audio recording capabilities, Dolby Audio support and connectivity options like 4G LTE support, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (2.4 & 5 GHz). and USB Type-C port.

Verdict

As far till now, we can’t find any fault in HTC 10 and it is absolutely true. But as always, the price does matters. With a price tag of Rs 52,990 ($790), HTC 10 had to compete with the likes of Apple iPhone 6s and Samsung Galaxy S7.

HTC has yet again struggled to price its smartphones aggressively, and this is despite operating in the Indian and Global market for a long time. This also means that its impressive smartphones are unable to compete against immediate rivals.
