Choosing a new smartphone is a difficult task, which is why there are so many to choose from. But to make the process more bearable, we’ve compiled ten of the best smartphones on the market, including the Galaxy S20 Plus, Galaxy Note 10 Plus, OnePlus 7 Pro, iPhone 11 and Pixel 4. Each device we evaluate is tested with the same combination of case studies and repeatable bench market tests. This means that we test everything from battery life and processor performance across the full range of daily tasks, to screen quality and calibration.
Now phones are also our essential devices for taking pictures, so that cameras are challenged in every possible situation. You want to know if a phone’s camera will impress not only in the sunlight in an exotic location, but also when you take pictures of people on the move at drunk parties, or just in the dull, flat light of a British winter.
You may also want to know how the phone can handle a Netflix compulsion or video call, so that our discharge tests take this into account. Above all, we take these phones with us and use them as ours for a longer period, we live with them to know their peculiarities and discover their hidden treasures.

Samsung Galaxy S20 / S20 Plus / S20 Ultra
It can be argued that Galaxy S phones are not always the most interesting, but it is undeniable how much more attention they get compared to much of the competition. For 2020, Samsung is launching a trio of phones with the Galaxy S20, S20 + and S20 Ultra. These are technically very impressive devices, with high prices, and if you can afford what Samsung orders for phones, they are definitely some of the best that the Android landscape sees year round.
As you would probably expect, the S20 Ultra is a very good phone. The 120Hz AMOLED screen is a beauty, Samsung’s build quality is as good as ever, and the updated camera system is a lot of fun to photograph. Samsung did everything with the phone, and the end result is a device that has virtually every function imaginable. At the moment, I don’t blame you for wanting an S20 Ultra, but keep in mind that it’s not a perfect phone.
The 120Hz refresh rate is a huge waste of battery life, the Samsung fingerprint sensor on the screen is a pain to use, and there is no avoiding the asking price of $ 1,400. You can also get the Galaxy S20 +. That’s $ 200 less than the S20 Ultra, and they’re just as good. The digital zoom is not as impressive and the battery is smaller, but it is also much easier to handle, thanks to its smaller size and puts a significantly smaller notch in your wallet.
Then there is the baby Galaxy S20. You may be inclined to think that the S20 baseline is the least exciting for the couple, but it is really the one we recommend for most people. It has the lowest price, is easy to use in one hand and basically offers the same features as the more expensive S20 +. For us, the Galaxy S20 Plus is the best option among the three devices and also the best smartphone at the moment. Why? Check out our article on the Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus Review
Apple iPhone 11 Pro / Pro Max
We will continue immediately: the Apple iPhone 11 Pro is the second best smartphone you can buy. It is also the most advanced iPhone that Apple has ever released, equipped with a new A13 Bionic processor. Couple that with a bigger battery and a different intelligence of energy optimization built into iOS 13, and you have an iPhone that can last all day without the need for a plug – and is used intensively. Be careful with the device and it can squeeze easily for two days.
But the main act is the triple camera. The third sensor is, in particular, a wide-angle lens that provides a 120 degree field of view, ideal for landscapes. The other two remain largely unchanged, with two small but impactful updates – the telephoto lens now has a wider aperture, bringing 40% more light, and the wide-angle sensor now has 100% focus pixels, which essentially means it can focus better in low light.
Mix it all up and play on an OLED screen to get a good size and you’ll find a versatile smartphone that can handle just about every task you throw away, without stopping to breathe even a single breath. However, this does not mean that there are not a reasonable number of errors – the biggest of which is the lack of support for 5G. Although this is not as important as you might think. The Apple iPhone 11 Pro also comes with an 18 W charger for fast charging.
The fact is that it is no better than the Apple iPhone 11 Pro now and, for those who want to update their phone now, quality says it is one of the first devices to be considered. Read the review of the Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max
Samsung Galaxy Note 10 / Note 10 Plus
The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 topped our list of the top 10 smartphones for most of last year and topped that list last month. While the headset is gone, everything else has been enhanced in the 2020 version of the Galaxy Note. Note 10 is now available in two variants, with the presence of a microSD card slot, the screen size and battery capacity as the main distinguishing factors.
The Galaxy Note 10 Plus is an excellent commercial smartphone with the latest Qualcomm processor, huge amounts of RAM, fast internal storage, microSD card expansion, suitable quad camera system and much more. The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 has a Link button for Windows in the area for quick operation, plus support for the latest version of DeX. Expanding to an external monitor with the Samsung DeX is quick and easy, as well as offering a fully functional desktop experience.
The additional option of charging other devices and equipment, such as Galaxy Buds, via wireless technology on the back of Note 10 is useful for road fighters. Note 10, starting with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage, starts at $ 949.99, while Note 10 Plus with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage starts at $ 1,099.99. There are also more RAM and storage options for both devices, but the standard base models offer enough RAM and storage for most users. Note 10 Plus is now available from Samsung and all providers. Apple iPhone 11
If you are an Apple fan and cannot afford to extend financially to the violence of the three cameras that are the iPhone 11 Pro, the iPhone 11 is a great option as a cheaper alternative – and therefore may be the best smartphone for you. in 2020. The iPhone 11 comes in a variety of attractive, bright colors and features a high-quality 6.1-inch HDR liquid Retina display, the latest and largest Apple A13 Bionic chipset from Apple, 3 GB of RAM, a battery 3,110 mAh and 64 GB storage space in the entry model (which can be occupied up to 256 GB with additional costs).
It is a well-equipped phone and very well manufactured across the board, which is great in the hand, right out of the box. What you don’t get on the Apple iPhone 11 is the same camera flexibility you get on the iPhone 11 Pro – and that’s because it has a dual camera instead of a triple camera. In addition, the screen (although large and sharp) is also an asset due to the Pro range and some other similarly priced devices. Either way, the “iPhone 11 offers a brilliant balance between features and price.
You wouldn’t know that Apple phones for 2020 are cheaper because of the construction, camera and speed. Only if it had an OLED screen … ”Thus, we believe that the iPhone 11 is one of the best smartphones that Apple is currently manufacturing in terms of value for money and, therefore, is an easy recommendation for most users. Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus
Samsung’s current mass flagship is a winner in almost every respect and remains a more affordable and pocketable option compared to the new Note 10 series. Prices have also dropped in the past six months, so you can buy this phone at a great price. Last year’s S9 Plus was a solid Android smartphone, but the S10 Plus enhances that device with an ultra-wide camera, much longer battery life, better software with a user interface and the ability to charge other wireless devices.
Samsung’s S10 and S10 Plus have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, Super AMOLED Infinity-O monitor, 8 GB of RAM (with 12 GB option), 128 GB to 1 TB storage options with a microSD for even more capacity, five cameras, IP68 rating, WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5, ANT + and an impressive design with beautiful Prism color options. The Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus continues to have all the great aspects of the Galaxy Foundation, such as high water resistance, fast wireless charging, an impressive Super AMOLED screen, expandable microSD storage, a 3.5mm headphone connection and much more. more.
In addition, the extension for an external monitor with Samsung DeX is quick and easy, and offers a fully functional desktop experience. The additional option of charging other devices and equipment, such as the new Galaxy Buds, via wireless technology on the back of the S10 Plus, is useful for warriors on the go.
The Galaxy S10 Plus has been available for six months, which means that you can often find special offers from your favorite provider. Amazon regularly unlocks models at even more affordable prices than Samsung or its suppliers. The Galaxy S10 started at $ 899.99 while the S10 Plus started at $ 999.99 for the 8GB / 128GB model. OnePlus 7 Pro
OnePlus launched the OnePlus 7 Pro a few months ago and was universally praised for its beautiful design, fast performance and absolute power at a price comparable to the main low-end Apple and Samsung phones. OnePlus continues to challenge leading phones with high-quality internal specifications at prices hundreds of times lower than competing premium phones. The OnePlus does a great job with its cutting-edge specifications, reasonable price hundreds of times less than other flagships, extremely responsive performance and use of new technologies, such as UFS 3.0 internal storage (now featured in Note 10 Plus) and screen upgrade. 90Hz rate.
Prices range from $ 669 to $ 749. The cheapest still costs 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, while the $ 749 model has 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage. At these prices, you will not find another phone with these excellent specifications. The OnePlus 7 Pro consists of two pieces of 3D Gorilla Glass with a metal frame. The design is elegant and the quality of the construction is excellent. It features a beautiful 6.67-inch AMOLED monitor, Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, triple rear cameras, ample RAM and internal storage options, a large 4000 mAh battery and Warp Charge 30 features, with excellent radio support for GSM networks.
There is no certification for dust and water resistance, and a 3.5mm headset cannot be found anywhere. Unlike most phones today, there are no notches or perforations on the screen for the camera. The front camera extends and retracts from the top when being actively used. Currently, the phone is quite large compared to most phones, but without notches, you get a fantastic screen-filling experience. Check out our review of the OnePlus 7 Pro
Samsung Galaxy Note 9
The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is a little bigger, a little more colorful and a little more powerful than all previous Note phones, but be careful: it is also a little more expensive. It’s the biggest Android phone that will catch your eye in 2020, with a 6.3-inch Super AMOLED screen, a huge 4000 mAh battery for all-day performance and up to 512 GB of internal memory and 8 GB of RAM.
Good news: Note 9 doesn’t actually look bigger than the 6.3-inch Note 8 last year and inherits many 5.8-inch Galaxy S9s this year and the 6.2-inch Galaxy S9 Plus features, including the camera specifications. The camera is better than Note 8, with a 12 MP rear setting with dual aperture technology and capable of recording videos in super slow motion. AR Emoji is back with some better avatar customizations, but make sure it never looks like you.
The S Pen now has Bluetooth for shortcuts with remote control that, unlike the Bixby button, are customizable. Do you want to pose for a photo at 30 meters? This S pen can help you do that and more. It works great, but you may have trouble finding a place to put your precious 9 note for snapshots of the entire body.
Note 9 is our recommendation for next generation smartphones, that is, if you want to have a gigantic phone with all the features with a pen and hate that save money. The current offerings on the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 are the biggest threat to this update which, ironically, is about being great in many small ways. Read our review of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9
Google Pixel 4 / Pixel 4 XL
If you want an Android phone that always has the latest firmware and security updates and at the same time offers a reasonable stock experience, nothing beats the Google Pixel 4 and 4 XL. These two phones are the same, except for the total size and battery capacity. The Google Pixel 4 XL has a large 6.3 inch 18: 9 screen, Snapdragon 855 processor, 6 GB of RAM, 64 GB and 128 GB of built-in storage, 16 MP and 12.2 MP dual cameras at the rear, 8 MP camera at the front, IP68 dust and water resistance, a 3,700 mAh battery and dual stereo speakers at the front.
The smaller Pixel 4 has a 5.7-inch screen and a smaller battery of 2,800 mAh, while the rest of the specifications are the same as the XL model. It is a pity that we started storage with only 64 GB, mainly because Google no longer offers unlimited full resolution backup of your photos. The battery life was not mentioned during the launch event and, given the relatively small battery capacity, this may be a concern this year, especially with the 90 Hz refresh rate on the display.
In addition, the software is Google’s focus, the camera is another reason to buy the Pixel 4 or 4 XL above other smartphone hardware better. However, while others have phones with three or four cameras on the back, Google added just one and went through telephoto with wide angle, so the utility of Pixel 4 cameras may not be as good as what you get on others smartphones in this list receive a list.
The smaller Pixel 4 starts at $ 799, while the Pixel 4 XL starts at $ 899 for the 64 GB model. Both are equipped with Android 10 and receive operating system updates for three years. Android’s monthly security updates are the most important software support for the company, because major firmware updates tend to break things down and become less stable immediately after launch. Apple iPhone XS / XS Max
if you’re looking for a top smartphone, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max are as good as they are. But it’s the 6.5-inch XS Max that I didn’t want to let go of, thanks to the giant screen and longer battery life, which is why it’s one of the best smartphones you can buy. The 5.8-inch ($ 999) iPhone XS has the same improvements as its older sibling, including a faster A12 Bionic processor that moves Android phones away, as well as cameras enhanced with Smart HDR and stunning bokeh controls.
The good news is that you get more screen space on the same chassis as Apple Plus devices, without the borders and the Start button. The bad news is that this is definitely not a skinny jeans phone (not that anyone will ever use it) and that you need two hands to use this 7.3 ounce colossus comfortably. For comparison: Samsung’s Galaxy Note 9 is 7.1 grams lighter, but it’s also bigger and slightly thicker.
For a limited time, you can get the iPhone XS for just $ 699 when you exchange your current iPhone with Apple and upgrade to a new one. And you can get the iPhone XS Max for just $ 749. That’s if you have a newer model, like the iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus. You save about $ 150 if you have an older iPhone 6 and $ 200 with the iPhone 6 Plus. You can even exchange the new generation iPhone X for a $ 450 discount. Read our review of the Apple iPhone XS Max
OnePlus recently announced the OnePlus 7T and, according to reviews, offers something more than the OnePlus 7 Pro at a lower price, so it deserves a place in the top five. Due to cutting-edge specifications, a reasonable price hundreds of times less than other flagships, extremely responsive performance and use of new technologies, such as UFS 3.0 internal storage (now on Note 10 Plus) and 90Hz screen refresh rate ( now seen on Pixel 4) is clearly a device to consider.
The OnePlus 7T is launched at a price of $ 599 and, unlike previous OnePlus phones, there is only one 8 GB / 128 GB RAM / storage option. The only options in the USA are Glacier Blue or Frosted Silver. That price is almost half the price of most flagships at the top of this list and is also offered by T-Mobile.
The OnePlus 7T has a 6.55-inch AMOLED display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus processor (currently only the conventional phone with this processor), triple rear cameras, ample RAM and internal storage, a large 3,800 mAh battery and 30T capacity. Warp Charge, with excellent radio support for AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon and other US networks. There is no certification for dust and water resistance, and a 3.5mm headset cannot be found anywhere.
For a few weeks, I use the OnePlus 7T after using the 7 Pro and the flat panel, and the zipper’s performance clearly makes it a great device to consider. Read our review of the OnePlus 7T
Honorable mention: Google Pixel 3A / 3A XL
Google recently launched several medium-sized phones that are much cheaper and still contain Google’s flagship camera solution. The Pixel 3A and 3A XL are the same phones, with only the screen size and battery capacity that differ. A $ 80 price difference distinguishes between the two sizes, with the same color options also available.
The Pixel 3A and 3A XL is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 processor with 5.6 or 6 inch OLED screens, 12 MP camera at the rear, 8 MP camera at the front, 4 GB of RAM at the front, 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB internal memory, stereo speakers and 3000 battery options / 3,700 mAh. This is targeted at the masses with limited internal storage and US carrier availability at Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile, and is unlocked directly by Google.
The smaller Pixel 3A costs just $ 399, while the Pixel 3A XL costs $ 479. The only option, except size, is the color of the phone. The available colors are Just Black, Purple-ish and Clearly White. Both are equipped with Android 9.0 Pie and receive operating system updates for three years. The latest Google assistant functions are present, in addition to other benefits of Google software.
Frequently asked questions before buying phones
Construction is all about the sustainability of a smartphone. The entire cell phone market is generally divided into two types of construction – plastic and metal. There are also those that have a glass panel, but are very limited. Phones like Galaxy Note 10, iPhone 11, etc., all come in either an aluminum chassis or a stainless steel frame, making them durable.
The size and resolution of the screen depends on how you use your smartphone. If you usually edit photos or videos, stream videos and download or watch movies, a 5.7 to 6 inch resolution screen, in full HD or QHD should be the best option for you. But as we are talking about the best smartphones, we recommend an AMOLED monitor, with Quad-HD resolution, such as Samsung’s Galaxy S10 Plus and Samsung’s new Galaxy Note 10.
The bigger the better. Battery usage varies from user to user, depending on how he uses the smartphone. You are a heavy user and work in many applications, stream videos, play games and much more than you need to choose a smartphone with at least 3500 mAh battery or more.
The more you get, the better. Smartphones with 128 GB of internal storage are good and, fortunately, are common among the main phones that start with 128 GB of internal storage. If you want to download a lot of games and create a 4K video, choose the maximum storage option. A micro-SD card slot is an excellent option for expanding storage space, but it is only available on certain Android phones. Therefore, if you choose a phone without an SD card slot, we prefer to use the best storage option available.
Even mid-range smartphones now offer exceptional performance for most users. But if you want more energy for gaming and virtual reality, buy a smartphone with a Snapdragon 845 chip or the latest Snapdragon 855 mobile platform. A Snapdragon 600 series chip is ideal for mid-size Android phones.
Here is an easy way to analyze the RAM of smartphones, essential for multitasking. Try to avoid devices with only 1 or 2 GB of RAM. On intermediate-level devices, 3 GB of RAM is a good option. But you will often find 4-6 GB of RAM in the main flagships. Some smartphones, like the OnePlus 7, Note 10, etc., offer no less than 8 GB / 12 GB of RAM. Then again, like Storage, choose the best available RAM option.
If you still have questions about how to get the best smartphones today, read this complete guide: Guide to buying the best smartphones.
